Launch a Business, Not a Side Project

This article half-hits the point. Their list of 9 steps is decent, but they say the problem is between 7-8. What if the problem is with number 1?

“Identifity a niche need that you have that’s currently under-served”

What if the niche need you have is over-served but you don’t it? What if your niche need is not valuable enough to be worht the costs of building the app?

I’d say there’s a step 0 that people like us miss: market research. How large is the market? Who are the competitors? How much revenue will this app make based on those numbers? How much will it cost to build & maintain? (to the article’s point, it’s more than you think)

I’d not sold on advertising, either, at least in traditional forms. It seems like there are opportunities for more direct advertising, combined with the A/B testing the article suggests, to really fine-tune your marketing message. After that, it’s a matter of time & sustainable effort, making sure people are talking about your product, listening to them, and responding.
