Pixels of hate

There’s a guy in Boston who is shutting down jihadist web sites by tracking their Internet Service Providers (ISPs), then pounding those companies with emails and phone calls until they pull down the websites.

This reminds me of the hacker in the U.S. who took over a jihadist website and pulled down all their hateful content.

This New York Times article talks about the two sides of this activity and doesn’t come to a conclusion about whether this is a helpful or hurtful activity for stemming the tide of hate. I say it’s a good thing. If you can convince those ISP companies that they are supporting the spread of viscerally inhumane ideas and get them to stop, this is a wonderful, peaceful way to fight terrorism.
